Danny Drinkwater says he’s relishing N’Golo Kante reunion at Chelsea
New Chelsea signing Danny Drinkwater has revealed that he is relishing being reunited with his former Leicester City team-mateN’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.
The pair partnered each other at the base of City’s midfield during the club’s remarkable Premier League title-winning season of 2015/16.
The pair are now team-mates again after Drinkwater completed a £35 million move to the west London outfit on transfer deadline day.
Drinkwater told the club’s official website (via the Premier League): “I played with N’Golo for a season and there was not really a game I didn’t enjoy playing next to him.
“I am looking forward hopefully to carrying on where we left off.”
Drinkwater faces a battle to get into the starting line-up at Chelsea as, in addition to Kante, manager Antonio Conte can also call upon Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas.
However, Drinkwater will be aiming to make a major impact in his first season at the club and, coincidentally, could make his debut for Chelsea away to Leicester next weekend.
Last season Drinkwater averaged four defensive actions per game, while he was successful with 78 per cent of the passes that he attempted.
After losing their first Premier League game of the season against Burnley, Chelsea bounced back to take maximum points from fixtures against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
